Barry is an experienced actor who has performed on stage in a wide variety of plays, musicals and pantomimes. He has recorded radio and television commercials and has acted in radio plays, films and a television series. Serious roles he has played include Polonius (Hamlet), and Baron Von Sweiten (Amadeus) and his comic roles include: Sir Nathaniel (Love’s Labour’s Lost), Mr Hardcastle (She Stoops to Conquer), Chubokov (The Proposal), Dr. Johnson (A Laughing Matter), Bertie (With Friends Like These…), and Harold Gorringe (Black Comedy). Barry was awarded a Robert Finlay Certificate for Outstanding Audience Engagement for his performance as Dame Martha in Babes in The Wood, and he was nominated as a Finley Best Supporting Actor for his moving portrayal of Shylock in The Merchant of Venice. Overseas, Barry acted for various theatre companies, including CAPAB, and played David in David and Ruth at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and in London. Barry was the eponymous Bookworm in the ZTV series. He acted in radio plays for ZBC and in radio and TV commercials for Production Centre and presented educational programmes for Audio Visual Services. He performed in South Africa for C Films, and in the film Men Dare Do and was an extra in Cloudstreet. Barry has also directed many plays including The Real Thing, Broken Glass, All My Sons, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and Death of a Salesman. Barry won the Robert Finley Director Award for his production of David Henry Hwang’s M. Butterfly, which also won the Best Play Award.
